Discovery Kids: Kitchen Chemistry

Wednesday, March 154:30—5:30 PMMeeting Room Lower LevelBillerica Public Library15 Concord Road, Billerica, MA, 01821

Join us for 'DISCOVERY KIDS', our series of afterschool, interactive, enrichment programs for children ages 4-9, which expose kids to the wonders of our scientific and natural world.

Presented by Educator and Entertainer Stephen Lechner of Science Works

The kitchen of most homes can be likened to a Mad-Scientist's Laboratory, where unusual materials are combined and created on a daily basis.  This workshop will focus on some of the chemical (and physical) changes of matter that occur in the kitchen, using common everyday materials such as vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar, baking soda, popcorn seeds, soda water, soap, pennies, eggs, corn starch and more.  We will experiment with these materials to see what happens when they are put together, which ones can be separated out, and which ones can create something entirely new in the process!  Samples of the experiments and a handout detailing how to try them at home will be provided.

Required online registration starts Monday, February 13 at 9:00 a.m.  Children will go into the program without their parents/caregivers.

This program is funded by the Family Friends of the Billerica Public Library.

Registration for this event has now closed.
