Join us on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7 pm for our weekly film discussion*! This week's movie is Mavis!, an award-winning documentary on gospel/soul music legend and civil rights icon Mavis Staples and her family group, The Staple Singers. From the freedom songs of the '60s and hits like "I'll Take You There" in the '70s, to funked-up collaborations with Prince and her recent albums with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Mavis has stayed true to her roots, kept her family close, and inspired millions along the way.
You can access this film using Kanopy, a free streaming resource available with your library card. For details on how to use Kanopy, check out a video tutorial available on the library's website here. Reach out to Lizzie at 978-294-9493 or lmeier@billericalibrary.org with any questions.
